General Facts

Even though the dictionary gives us the definition of a non-profit organization that is independent of any government and works towards social issues , the soul purpose of an NGO is to make everyone's life better and spread happiness especially to the ones who need it the most. They aid in upbringing of the society , resort to poor people's needs, reduce child mortality, improve education , development of women rights being few among many.
So, now that we know what an NGO is, it is very essential to understand why a big organizational body like the government isn't able to completely achieve the things the NGO's are achieving. It is highly difficult to reach out to everyone and in person many times to understand the concerns of every individual. Not everything can be handled by a single body alone. With this in mind, NGO's are formed and are working pro actively in the society
In India, as per the research conducted in 2015 , the data collected shows that more than 31 Lakh NGO's are registered. This is estimated to be double the number of Government Schools in the country. This means, for every 400 people there is an NGO which is more than the number of policemen for approximately 709 people. It is also 250 times the number of government hospitals. All these statistics are startling and it is just a rough count. There are many upcoming NGO's every single day and they have not been into this calculation yet.
Even with Lakhs of NGO's in many states , they are eagerly waiting to help the poor and the needy. Different NGO's have different agendas with them and they go way past their limits to do the best to help in the upbringing of the society.
Everyone today is familiar with the term poverty as to when a person fails to get his basic needs to survive. Approximately 300 million(22%) fall below poverty line estimated based on the consumption, expenditure. Even though there is a slight decrease in the number of families coming below the poverty line, there are so many factors influencing it, population and unemployment are the principal problems. Due to lack of proper income which affects the quality of life vastly of the families that are struggling to make ends meet. Few people are unable to get better education because of less income and resort to working in some low income job profiles. This forms a deadly cycle not leading to any growth in their quality of lives.
Government has taken many intiatives by conducting programs to overcome poverty and hunger which is hindering the economy. Atleast 5.5% of the population is in extreme poverty. 73 Million hoping to find a meal for the next day is very disheartening to hear itself. There are few responsibilities not only for the government but for US being the citizens of the country are equally responsible for working towards a solution for the issues we are facing. NGO's take up the major responsibilities on their shoulder and not only just the funding process but also act as a bridge between government and people.
Each NGO has its own mission, motto and values. Abiding to humanity and diversity are the strengths of every NGO. NGO's make the most of the donations in the most efficient manner to have a direct impact on the lives of the poor and the needy. NGO may not completely give support life long but will definitely pave the path and show them the way of a proper life. They reach out to remote areas where they have very limited access to any healthy livelyhood , try to identify the issues and come up with smart ways to solve them.
All NGO's may not completely bring a huge change in the the statistics but will bring in remarkable changes in the lives of the poor and can have a secure future for their kids and so on. NGO's instill the fire in them to lead their battles as they are always by their side.
